Masdar is the UAE’s clean energy champion and one of the largest companies of its kind in the world, advancing the development and deployment of renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies to address global sustainability challenges. Established in 2006, Masdar is today active in over 40 countries, helping them to achieve their clean energy objectives and advance sustainable development.
Masdar is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), and under this ownership the company is targeting a renewable energy portfolio capacity of at least 100 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 and an annual green hydrogen production capacity of up to 1 million tonnes by the same year.

Valerie Levkov is a board member at Emerge and also Senior Vice President for Africa and Middle East at EDF, a position she has held since July 2015.
Valerie developed her skills in the Purchasing Department, and the Group Finance Department, before becoming Director of Internal Communications of the EDF Group. In May 2009, she took charge of the global development of new nuclear projects.
Valerie is a Telecom Engineer with a DESS in management. She began her career at EDF in 1987. She has spent over 10 years in the Department of Research&Development, where she had several positions including researcher, project manager and head of a team of 150 engineers, all dedicated to the introduction of new information technologies in power stations.
Abdulaziz Alobaidli is a board member at Emerge and Masdar’s Chief Operating Officer. He oversees the delivery and operations of Masdar’s renewable energy portfolio and its engineering, supply chain, and energy services. Prior to that, he worked for TAQA leading its domestic power and water generation business.
With over 16 years of experience in the energy and utilities business, including renewables, Abdulaziz has been on the board of directors for several electricity generation and water desalination companies across the UAE and the Middle East.
Abdulaziz earned a M.Sc in Energy Engineering, specializing in power plant technology, from RWTH Aachen University in Germany and a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from UAE University. He received the Emirates Energy Award in 2013 and was a member of the Zayed Future Energy Prize Review Committee.
Luc Koechlin, is a board member at Emerge and also Managing Director and CEO at EDF Middle East.
Luc joined EDF in 2005. From 2005 to 2017, he occupied various positions within EDF Group from advisor and auditor at EDF Presidency, to Regional Commercial Director managing the transformation of EDF and the opening of the French electricity market to competition. He joined EDF International Division in 2017, as Vice President for Southern and Eastern Africa. During this period, he developed projects, especially in Hydropower and Energy Efficiency, to combat the energy crisis and support the energy transition from coal to clean energy. He was appointed Managing Director and CEO, EDF Middle East in September 2022.
Luc holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Business Administration from ESSEC Business school, a leading French Business School.
Dr Ibraheem Almansouri is a board member at Emerge and the Director of Engineering at Masdar. He has oversight of all technical support for Business Development, Project Delivery, M&A, Asset Management and Energy Services. Previously he was a senior member of the bidding team in Clean Energy’s Business Development team and was responsible for various projects in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
He has extensive knowledge in academia and research and a wide range of strategic and commercial exposure, as well as practical experience.
Dr. Ibraheem is the recipient of the Emirates Energy Award (2014-2015 cycle) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Myron Zucker Industry Applications Award (2008). He is an active member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academy of Scientists.
Abdulaziz AlMubarak is a board member at Emerge and the Managing Director and Country Manager of Masdar in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With a proven record of success, he has more than 10 years of experience and is focused on renewable energy.
Abdulaziz has a deep understanding of the latest technologies and trends and is skilled at developing and executing innovative projects. He has direct international experience, having worked in more than seven countries on a variety of projects. This includes wind, solar PV, multi-utilities, hydro, and nuclear. He is also a passionate advocate for clean energy and sustainable development, and he is committed to supporting the renewable energy transition in Saudi Arabia.
Omar AlDaweesh is a board member at Emerge and the General Manager for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain within the EDF Group.
He started his career as a System Engineering consultant for Riyadh Metro, the world’s largest transportation project. Omar joined EDF in 2018 as the Business and Projects Development Manager. His extensive experience covered the development of projects in the fields of renewable energies, energy efficiency, district cooling, networks (transmission and distribution).
Omar holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hartford, USA. He holds an executive education in entrepreneurship from London Business School, among other technical-related certifications. From 2017 to 2018, he was acknowledged as one of the top 10 engineers worldwide by Parsons Corporation.
Michel Abi Saab is the General Manager at Emerge. He has made great contributions towards leading Emerge across the UAE and in the Middle East.
Michel has more than a decade of experience in the field of energy efficiency, air-conditioning, high-performance/zero-energy buildings, energy modeling and energy performance contracting. Previously, he was a Manager of Energy Services, Clean Energy at Masdar, where he assisted public and private entities in reducing their energy bills and improving their energy efficiency. He was also responsible for ensuring that Masdar adopted sustainability best practices during the design and operation phases of the Masdar City development, one of the world’s most sustainable communities. He developed the Masdar Energy Design Guidelines, which serve as a mandatory framework for designing energy efficient buildings in Masdar City.
Michel holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lebanese University and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification professional (CMVP), a LEED Accredited Professional, and an ISO 50001 Energy Management System Lead Auditor.
